moku wa'a ielea

It rained early this morning when I already planned to come to office earlier than usual. The weather is still good right now when I'm sitting at my new office, which luckily has a window where I could stare outside to the bluey sky. And I'm currently streaming Boi Akih's songs which suit perfectly to the mood.

I was so stunned by their live performance two years ago at Erasmus Huis, especially the songbird Monica Akihary, I have marked my calender weeks before their show two days ago. They were actually a Netherland based band, but the vocalist, Monica, is of Moluccan decent and they sing in her father’s native language, Haruku, which has been regarded as moribund by the scientific world. And you know, as they sang I can actually feel the auditorium transformed to beautiful breezy scenes of beach, ocean, trees, and people praying for their mystical gods. Somehow it made me proud of being an Eastern, proud of being a part of the largest archipelago on earth, and proud of being alive. I just wished I could carry the feeling with me even though the show's over.

Second show is the Manu Codjia trio jazz, same venue, the next day, which is yesterday night. I also have marked my calendar weeks before the show just because their poster looks graphically interesting without even needing a staged hi-res sharp image. Too bad I came late to the show and only got to watch the show on a big screen outside, which was totally not the point of me coming there. But at least I got to see their last two songs live, and they were great.
