airports: a prolog and an epilog

Yes, I am that weirdo who bothers taking pictures at the airports which obviously aren't the main attraction of a journey. But I always love being in an airport. To me airports are like the prolog or the epilog of a story. People are there whether they're going somewhere or they're coming back from somewhere. You either sense the excitement of going or arriving at somewhere or the sadness of leaving a place behind. (Well of course I'm talking as a person who doesn't fly that often. It'll be a different story, let's say, if one flies once a month.)

And so far I enjoy the airport routines. Checking in, lining and queing here and there, collecting the stamps (hehe). But perhaps if I travel more often I'd get bored of these, who knows. And not the mention some bureaucrazy you might find in some airports, or the extremely long baggage waiting time at local airports.

I tend to observe graphically the special signage, the typo and everything, specially when they have different language or alphabet. They of course play an important part for people to sense the place and get clear direction. And the wide span gigantic detailed structures. Could be boring but still, you don't enjoy being in a very wide span covered structures everyday where you can sense the enormity of a space.

And the people you meet. You can see people with different skins coming from everywhere, speaking the language you don't understand. Some might come from the country you haven't heard of. I didn't have the chance to get to know anyone this time cause I travelled in group. But once I got to know a man from Malta who's so excited about going to Bali. Of course I knew there's a country named Malta but I couldn't pictured where exactly it is on a geographical map. Bumping in to strangers and engaging a nice conversation is always an interesting experience.

Well this is Suvarnabhumi, one of the main gate of Bangkok, Thailand. I like the name. It sounds so eastern and give an impression of a strong earthy thing, while it's actually a Sanskrit means 'Golden Land'.
