A colleague told me weeks ago, if you travel to South you'd feel like you're not in Italy because it's too different. Now after experiencing Napoli, I can say that he's not 100% right. Architectural wise I could still feel the Italian form although in a different kind of sense. In some part of the city I felt resemblance to Milan, although much less luxurious. But what surprised me was that in another part of the city, I felt resemblance to..Jakarta! Garbage all over the place, the things that the shops sell I could tell are not of good quality, and even the people reminds me of those in Jakarta, the way they dressed and the way life's going on.
The city is too big to be explored in just one day, I unfortunately missed the waterfront, but I managed to go to this cemetery, Cimitero delle Fontanelle. Saw it years ago on a travel channel, so I thought it might be interesting. And besides, what's cooler than putting a cemetery as your travel destination.. Haha.
Despite all the stereotype and prejudice, I think I still can't give a fair judgement because I've only been to a small part of the city. But when they say Southern people are warm and nice, yes they are! The gentleman guarding this cemetery gave us, strangers, a ride in his car back to the city center. Some Perugini told me you'd die in Napoli because it's too gorgeous. Well I didn't die but at least this is what I perceived when I was there. I'm sure I'll come back someday cause I still have this wish I've been having for years to visit a particular island near Napoli. Not now, but someday in the future.
