The city of Genova left a certain remark among all my trips. I felt like crying when I was leaving the city. I didn't know exactly what makes me sad the most, the slow enjoyable travel, the companion of a good friend, the hospitality and the lessons I learnt from an Italian family, or the contact with the breathtaking nature.
Genova is a port city, the birthplace of the famous Christopher Columbus. All my previous trips before Genova were around center Italy, of which mostly what I saw were hills, rivers, mountains, and medieval architecture. So when I arrived in Genova, I was stunned by the different ambiance, the nature, the sea, and the ports.
I went when it was still spring with the unpredictable weather, but it wasn't summer yet so it wasn't crowded. With the chilly wind without the overly cast summer sun, it was nice strolling along the coast even for a long time. The sea was probably one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. The color was of jade green and it was so perfectly clear. You can see the horizon how the blue sea meets the blue sky harmoniously and beautifully. Being close to nature always evoke something inside you, I guess. Only by feeling all of these in front of you, you can almost feel the peacefulness of living.
At the port there were some new modern buildings by the famous Renzo Piano, which was also born in Genova. It's so beautiful at night with all the lights and the boats on the seaside and when you gaze through the other side, old buildings line beautifully on the hilly land. There were of course the ugly sides of the city, just like any other cities, but Genova, you surely are "presentable" :)
