trieste, friuli-venezia giulia.

trieste is at the tip of northeast italy. it's in friuli-venezia giulia, which is now the 11th italian region i've been to. i wasn't actually intended to go to trieste although it is to me one of the interesting cites in italy i wouldn't mind to visit. i was here only for a short time because my intention was to go to ljubljana in slovenia, which cost much cheaper by bus from trieste rather than flying from any other cities in italy.

being a city standing close to the border, it offered me different aesthetic than the typical italian cities. perhaps this is because it was once under the austro-hungarian empire and it was its fourth largest city after vienna, budapest, and prague.

it's been quite a while since the last time i took some time just to be quiet sitting by the seaside, writing, smoking, letting people passing by; kids, families, couples, friends, old people.. it has been almost a year living in europe when i was in trieste. it felt like time has passed so fast like i didn't have time to digest all things that have happened and process them so that they stay longer, linger in my memory. it's interesting to see how i've been living my life without plan, going from point to point, each within short distance. and if i take a step back to see the bigger picture, it's another different story. there's a lot of things i still need to reflect upon but right there and then i just let the cold of early december soak inside me by the calm of the sea, once again being thankful and confuse of being alive. and see ahead of me, of so many options of how my life could possibly go.
