Couple of days ago I read in a daily newspaper about this international comparison of purchasing powers in some cities around the globe. Interesting. It can be downloaded at the original research site, the UBS. There will be these tables comparing the price, wage levels, and domestic purchasing power for a bigmac and an iPod nano.
While Copenhagen ranks at the top of the list for the highest wage levels, Jakarta ranks at #73 from 73 cities listed. Singapore at #40 btw. And if it only needs 9 hours of working in New York to buy an iPod nano, it takes 27,5 hours working in Singapore and 93 hours in Jakarta for the same iPod.
Interesting? Pathetic? Maybe it doesn’t matter at all anyway. I don’t know. I like this richlist position tool better. It helps you to be grateful.
