sawahlunto, west sumatra.

when i accepted my friend's invitation to her wedding in sumatra, i didn't expect much. just that i thought i haven't been to the island since i was a kid, like probably almost twenty years ago, which was my very first experience flying an airplane, for as fas as i could recall. the wedding was at her hometown, a village which was three hours drive from the city. i imagined it would be similar to the smaller towns in java, so we would spend most times to travel in the bigger cities in west sumatra.

out of my expectation, it turned out to be a small lovely town with its own characteristic, unlike those i know in java. although we've finished walking around the whole town in probably less than thirty minutes in the evening, we didn't mind to take a walk around once again late at night either to see new places or just to walk around. it's a small town where everyone knows each other. being here made me feel envious for not having any hometown. i basically have no hometown to go home to. i only know this city i was born and grew up in all my life which never really feel like home. how tragic. i always feel like i'm a city person cause i get inspired with modern art and design which i could only find in cities. also i enjoy the buzz of urban life with all its intrigues. but i guess it's also have always been a dream to have a resting place somewhere close to nature, somewhere to get away from city daily life, having a studio with huge window for me to create things, sharing life with people i care about and some cats. it might seem like something very far away for me now to imagine but who knows where life takes me next.
