giving up

from the top of the mountain every morning i walk towards the edge and throw little things off / i listen to the sounds they make on their way down / i follow with my eyes 'til they crash / imagine what my body would sound like slamming against those rocks

i go through all this before you wake up / so i can feel happier to be safe up here with you

Björk - Hyperballad

I'm tired of pretending. I guess on my daily basis I am surrounded with "normal" people with "normal" way of thinking and "normal" acceptable behavior, I start to alienate my existence.

Björk. I never really pay attention to Björk since I always thought that she's too twisted. Björk is too twisted I think everyone listening to her songs must also be twisted in a way. But I'm not going to talk it further, I'm going to rant specifically about Hyperballad.

I've had the live video saved on my itunes and ipod since I don't know when, but only recently that I really dig into the lyric. And has since left a very powerful impact.

I once told my friends a simple way of living, "you born alone, you live alone, you die alone." Social interaction and dependance between human being is always something tricky to me. I have broken too many relationships. And there were times when I feel like I ain't capable to socially function like other "normal" people.

The song, whether it's metaphorically or literally, suggests the act of destructive habit as a coping mechanism to stay in a relationship. It's like giving up some part of yourself because there's a side of you that can't fit in.

For now, I don't know how much of myself I could learn to give up and start picking up what it takes to be "normal". I'm a monster. And I'm not going to hide it or fake it. Just remember, it is written that Jesus once said, whoever has not sinned, may cast the very first stone.
